Interracial Workplace Cooperation: Evidence from the NBA
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using data from the National Basketball Association (NBA), we examine whether patterns of workplace cooperation occur disproportionately among workers of the same race. We find that, holding constant the composition of teammates on the floor, basketball players are no more likely to complete an assist to a player of the same race than a player of a different race. Our confidence interval allows us to reject even small amounts of same race bias in passing patterns. Our findings suggest that high levels of interracial cooperation can occur in a setting in which workers are operating in a highly visible setting with strong incentives to behave efficiently. * We thank Matt Gibb for excellent research assistance. The Hypothetic Post-Sensory Nociceptive-Sympathetic Coupling Necessary for Pain Sensation from NBA
In May 2016, the USA athletes of NBA speculated in television that the pain sensation might result necessarily from the post-sensory nociceptive-sympathetic coupling. Besides the common knowledge from causalgia and reflex sympathetic dystrophy as sympathetically maintained pain, it is herein reinforced the post-sensory differentiation of nociception and pruritus as supporting evidence for them,...
متن کاملImporting Preferences: Asymmetric Misperception of Risk by Experienced Agents∗
Using incentives to shape behavior requires that people understand the choice-outcome mapping and don’t use preferences or heuristics imported from other domains. We study an observable risk-return tradeoff for which risk preferences are normatively prescribed by a minimal assumption. The choice is whether to shoot a 2-pointer or a 3-pointer in professional (NBA) basketball. When losing, teams ...
متن کاملConcerns about Appearing Prejudiced Get Under the Skin: Stress Responses to Interracial Contact in the Moment and across Time.
Many White Americans are concerned about appearing prejudiced. How these concerns affect responses during actual interracial interactions, however, remains understudied. The present work examines stress responses to interracial contact-both in the moment, during interracial interactions (Study 1), and over time as individuals have repeated interracial contact (Study 2). Results of Study 1 revea...
متن کاملAdsorption of Nile Blue A from Wastewater Using Magnetic Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes: Kinetics and Equilibrium Studies
Background: Synthetic dyes are serious pollutants and wide ranges of methods have been employed for their removal from aquatic systems. We studied the adsorption of "Nile blue A" (NBA), an anionic dye, from aqueous solution by oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Methods: Scanning electron microscope and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize ...
متن کاملMarital Dissolution Among Interracial Couples
Increases in interracial marriage have been interpreted as reflecting reduced social distance among racial and ethnic groups, but little is known about the stability of interracial marriages. Using six panels of Survey of Income and Program Participation (N 1⁄4 23,139 married couples), we found that interracial marriages are less stable than endogamous marriages, but these findings did not hold...
